Business Blogs Continue to Grow… and Morph

It’s no surprise that the number of blogs are growing, but when business blogs start to take off, you know blogs have gone mainstream.

More and more businesses are finding that a business blog only makes sense.  Business blogs are current. Google indexes them.  The content is easy to update (almost too easy.) In today’s world, a website that doesn’t change is very stale.

So what’s the next big thing?  Well, right now business blogs are expanding beyond simple typed, WordPress/TypePad mediums:

  • YouTube is already being used for business.  How easy it is to shoot and post a video about your business.  Just because it’s video, doesn’t mean it isn’t a blog.  I think that it jokingly is called a vlog  (video blog) but it’s just as relevant as a written blog - maybe more.
  • Podcasts make business blogging easy too.  I’ve used Skype with a recording plug in  for what seemed like a pretty painless podcast.  Still a novice podcaster, I just loaded in PodPress for my blog but I hope to have it posted today.
  • Twitter is like a mini blog with just 140 characters at a time.  Use it like a business blog or use it for fun, but Twitter has gained rapid popularity among business professionals.
  • LinkedIn offers ways to get introduced, to collect testimonials and to connect. (Today it seems like both Twitter and LinkedIn are struggling under very heavy loads. Anyone else experiencing it?)

Business blogs are getting shorter! Shorter communication gets more to the point. Are lengthy white papers outdated? Which would you read: An 8 page PDF or a 140 character summary?

In June 2, 2008’s Businessweek quotes AmandaMooney from Twitter: “The new resume is 140 characters or less.” Gee, even my Verizon text message gives me 160 characters.

Tweet. I better get to the point: If you don’t have accounts with Web2.0 sites and you are a business professional — especially a business professional who is interested in marketing and branding  — you’ll need to have an account with each of these.

What’s the future of Business Blogs? I think it’s learning something new. So, what’s your new business blog tool? What have you challenged yourself to learn today?

I haven’t toyed with LinkedIn much yet but all of the rest of the mediums you mentioned are absolutely taking off in the business world. YouTube is definitely just tipping the iceberg. Can you imagine what will happen when these large companies realize that they don’t have to pay for expensive TV commercials? The effect is going to be far-reaching and intense. Can’t wait!

Oh and “Tweet. I better get to the point.” That was pretty clever. :)

The fact is blogging is much better than a stagnant site. Its coming and hopefully oldtimer CEOs will stay out of the way. We don’t need posts taking weeks to be approved by everyone in a company - that destroys it before its ever done.

Youtube - I think Blendtec has this right - use if to make fun nearly interactive videos.

They never - say - buy this product (that you don’t really need) they just show how fun it can be.

    Blogging, Brains, and Business Mix…

Bloggers are finding surprising new inroads into dividends that open first and faster to an online community. The human brain benefits from the sheer art of writing into topics from a human perspective. Business takes off when bloggers deep dive….

The internet is the new way for promoting items. The internet offers so many services that are useful to businesses, like You Tube which allows businesses to put videos online. It also allows for easy communication
