I’ve been using an outdated them in WordPress for quite a while. It may have been outdated the day I installed it actually, because at the time I was just thinking design and not thinking programming. I’d been stuck in WordPress 2.6 for a while now and all my plug-ins were acting up.
But, I procrastinated making a change. I really kinda dreaded it.
Just like any upgrade, there’s always something! So I put off changing my theme because I was worried I’d lose all the customizations I’d put into this blog. Well, this morning I installed Thesis 1.5.1 and with some trepidation, I clicked activate.Â
Of course, right away I got a fatal error. Yikes. Now what?Â
Well, Thesis actually has AWESOME troubleshooting support and it took me less than 10 minutes to figure out that it was because I was still on old WordPress 2.6. Now that I had a theme that supported the new WordPress, click, click and bam! Problem solved.
I can’t believe the level of customization available (WOW! I haven’t even scratched the surface) and how easy it is to fix those really nasty code problems that I’d manage to get myself into (because of the support forums.)
Other things I like… you upgrade with one click, right from the WordPress control panel. That’s nice. Before I had to log into my host and go thru about 6 screens to upgrade.
Probably most importantly, Thesis somehow separates the code that Google sees when it crawls, from all the design part. So I can keep tweaking the design without messing up my SEO. It became really apparent to me when my old Blogspot blog was still outranking my WordPress blog on several posts. Time to take a deep breath & upgrade.
It also has some great image tools… which I haven’t had a chance to play with yet, but I can tell will solve some of the frustrations I’ve had with adding images to posts.
What I didn’t like so much about Thesis
Unlike the other themes I’ve used in the past, you pay for Thesis, however if the rest of my experience with this theme is as smooth as the initial installation, it’s definitely worth it!
If I knew it’d be this easy, I would have taken the plunge a few months ago!
If you’ve moved to Thesis for WordPress, what has been your experience?

I love Thesis Chris, and though I didn’t make the transition myself, I use it every day. It’s super easy to use, works with all the plug-ins I wanted, and is super search engine friendly.
All in all, I too should have moved sooner, but who knew?
Thanks, Phil. You’re right! I’m enjoying learning it’s features!
I moved to Thesis wordpress theme few months back and by far my journey with thesis is excellent, I started editing Thesis theme for my self and later on I started giving services to client for editing and customizing Thesis theme. This gave a great boost to my online business…
Though unlike other theme which looks like web2.0 default one fails to give you the same look :|
Yeah.Thesis is great theme with SEO system.
