Traditionally the first of the month is blogtipping day, but here’s my entries for March.
For those who enjoy learning about the ever changing subtleties of branding and marketing in a Web 2.0 world, I’d like to feature several blogs that focus on branding & marketing in my March blogtipping post. (Blog tipping rules: feature several blogs with a track back, describe 3 features you like, then offer 1 suggestion for improvement.)
1) Jennifer McLean at The Credibility Branding Blog: I like her obvious depth of knowledge about branding and marketing. Jennifer discusses strategy in her posts, more than tactics and I find that refreshing. She also uncovers some good research to back up her positions. She has a thought provoking viewpoint that the “increasingly convergence of branding and PR through technology is unavoidable.”
One way I think that she could improve her blog is to link back to the research, link to other blogs, links to expand the information. For instance, this post about Marketing Strategy cries for links to the findings hyperlinked throughout and not to her own website. In all fairness, she does have a link at the bottom of the 600+ word post.
2) David Meerman Scott at Web Ink Now: Great straightforward style. Good resources and links. Tells it like he thinks it is. Easy reading and well thought out posts. From his entry Branding Is For Cattle: “Countless marketers got their knickers in a twist about the outward manifestation of an organization’s brand-including logos, image ads, and tchotchkes-all at the expense of buyers and what they need to understand the company — especially the content found on the company’s site. Well, they are flaky wimps if that’s what they do. What’s really at stake—in fact what branding’s really about—is a focus on the buyer.”
Not sure I have a suggestion for improvement. I think I have more to learn from him than he does from me. I’ll add an update if I can come up with something…
3) Jon Miller of Marketo - Modern B2B Marketing: Interesting content. Valid points. Good links out. From his post: Do You Recognize the 4 Warning Signs of Bad Lead-itis? “If you suffer from Bad Lead-itis, do not worry. Help is available. There is a cure. You just need to follow this four-step program:
- Don’t ask for too much information from leads early in the buying process.
- Deepen the relationship over time.
- Pass only sales-ready leads to your sales force.
- Know when to stop investing additional resources in bad leads.”
Room for improvement: post more. Once a week is okay, but a more regular conversation with readers will improve continuity.
P.S. Who started Blogtipping day? and who should I thank for the visual? I think it’s Mike Sansone at Converstations, right? If so, Thank you!! If not, let me know!

Thanks for the suggestion. I keep trying to post more often, but life somehow always gets in the way!
Keep up the good work!
