Yellow Pages: Print vs Web

In December 2006, 70% of the US (about 141 million Americans) said they use the internet. The Pew Internet & American Life Project, found that of those surveyed 91% said they have used a search engine to find information and 41% said they use search engines on a daily basis.

Wonder how many people are still using the printed phone books of Yellow Pages every day? I know even in the volunteer committees that I’m involved in at my church and through some non-profits, the idea of shifting our media dollars from the yellow pages into the internet to help SEO keeps coming up.

I must have 5 big books in my phone book drawer, but I never pull them out anymore, I just jump on a search engine to look something up.

Who has definitive statistics about this? I found several sources, but nothing I felt was reliable enough to link to. I pretty sure I’m not the only one thinking about this.

Any suggestions?

  1. No suggestions yet, but you’re absolutely right. You’re not the only one thinking about this. That’s why I ended up finding your blog.
